David Davenport
Painter
Early in my artistic career, I worked as an Art Director at Doyle, Dane,
Bernbach in NYC and received several add awards. In the summer of
1974 I attended the Art Student League and rekindled my desire for painting.
I continued my painting and drawing studies at the NY Studio School in
Paris under the direction of Elaine DeKooning.
From 1977-79 I was a Graduate Teaching Fellow in Painting at the University
of Maryland with Painter/Art Historian Dr. David Driskell. During
that time, I was fortunate to have as my mentor and thesis advisor painter/sculptor
Anne Truitt. Following my MFA in Painting, I received the Skowhegan
School of Painting Scholarship and the Yaddo Fellowship Awards.
Over the last 2 decades I have continued my career as a painter.
Presently I teach full time as a Graphich Design Instructor at Alamance
Community College in the Advertising and Graphic Design Department.
I live and maintain a painting studio in Durham, NC with my lovely wife
Carolyn and two children, Zack and Ellen.
