Shirle' Hale Koslowski
Shirle's love of art began at an early age. One of her
earliest memories is
that of her father, a truck driver, taking her and her mother on trips
where
Shirle' would pass the time in the sleeper compartment of the truck drawing
for hours while they drove across the country. In high school she won
a
scholarship to study both art and music, but decided on music, studying
at
Berklee College of Music in Boston. She is the singer/bassist for the
band
Gerty!, an indie new wave group based in Durham, NC. Not only is she a
painter, but describes herself as an interactive sculpter, a quilter,
a
power tool maven, a secret scientist and a talented chef. She is the owner
of Four Corners Cuisine-a Personal Chef Service located in Durham NC.
Artist Statement
"Rations" is a series of pantings in which I try to relay the
feelings I
have about our place in the world. Is there enough for all or even one?
What about "us" as humans, a species that is using up the resources
on this
planet at a never before seen rate...like a match that has been struck
and
soon to burn out...will there be enough for future generations? This is
what
I feel in these paintings. The singleness of the one and the singleness
of
the group as a whole and the fear that we will soon "burn out"
all the
rations we've been given.
